Watching the XXI PON Women’s Football Final, Erick Thohir: The Match Was Nice to Watch

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – PSSI General Chairperson, Erick Thohir, appreciated the smooth implementation of the women’s soccer final of the 21st National Sports Week (PON) Aceh-North Sumatra 2024 at the Mini Pancing Stadium, Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, Saturday (14/9/2024).

The gold medal match won by West Java after defeating DKI Jakarta, 3-0, was watched by no less than 3,000 spectators, which is one of the records for the largest number of PON spectators.

“There are two positive things. First, it is played in a district-level stadium with a capacity of 5,000 or 6,000 so it is sufficient and not too luxurious. Second, the match between the women’s team of West Java and DKI is also interesting and runs well with smooth ball flow so it is pleasant to watch. This is good for equality because it can be seen that the talents of the players are the same,” said Erick Thohir who came specifically to watch the final match of the women’s soccer branch firsthand.

Regarding the development of women’s football achievements, Erick added that PSSI remains focused on forming national teams at all levels.

“We are still focusing on the U-17, U-20, and above women’s national teams. Regarding the league, we will continue to design it after 2026-2027 because it is impossible for us to force the league to rotate if there are not many women’s talents,” he added.

Erick also gave a generally positive assessment of the implementation of PON in Aceh and North Sumatra which will take place on 9-20 September 2024.

“It’s not like what many media outlets have reported. I see it positively. how come. Moreover, PON is an event to unite the nation so we must continue to support it so that all sports branches are more down to earth and become entertainment for the community,” he concluded.
