Winning Gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Beautiful Chinese Badminton Player Huang Yaqiong Proposed to by Her Boyfriend on the Podium

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – What if winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics immediately led to a marriage proposal? That’s what happened to Huang Yaqiong, a female badminton player from China, on Friday (2/8/2024). She was proposed to by her boyfriend Liu Yuchen on the podium.

Huang Yaqiong, who paired with Zheng Siwei, won the gold medal in the mixed doubles badminton event at the 2024 Paris Olympics after defeating Kim Wonho and Jeong Naeun from South Korea (21-8, 21-11).

After Huang Yaqiong went through the medal ceremony, Chinese men’s doubles badminton player Liu Yuchen had a surprise for her.

Liu Yuchen, who won the silver medal in the men’s doubles event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and will return to compete in the men’s doubles event at the 2024 Paris Olympics, took out a ring, knelt down on one knee, and proposed to Huang Yaqiong.

Holding flowers in her hand from the medal ceremony, Huang Yaqiong immediately said yes. The proposal was shown on the video board at the Arena Porte de la Chapelle in Paris and the crowd celebrated with the Chinese couple.

This is actually not the first proposal that has been made during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The official Paris 2024 Olympic website notes that Argentine men’s handball player Pablo Simonet proposed to Argentine women’s field hockey player Maria Campoy in the Olympic Village before the start of the competition.

American swimmer Lilly King also got engaged to her fiancé James Wells on a pool deck in Indianapolis at the United States Olympic swimming trials in June.
