Winning, Harimau Malaya Leads Group A Standings
Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Malaysia now leads the AFF Cup group A standings after beating Timor Leste with a tight score of 3-2, Wednesday (11/12/2024) at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
In the previous match in the same group, Singapore beat Cambodia 2-1. Malaysia’s victory brought them to the top of the standings with four points. Meanwhile, the second position is occupied by Thailand which collected three points. However, the War Elephant team, nicknamed Thailand, has only played one match.
Meanwhile Timor Leste is still in the last position because they have not collected any points. In their first match, Timor Leste also lost with a very heavy score of 0-10 when they met Thailand.
In the Malaysia vs Timor Leste match, unexpectedly, coach Simon Elisettche’s team even took the lead.
Malaysia started the win with a goal scored by Syafiq Ahmad when the match entered the 37th minute. Timor Leste then took the lead with two goals at the end of the first half thanks to goals from Olagar Xavier in the 45+1 minute and Joao Pedro (45+3).
However, Malaysia did not want to give up. They scored two goals in the second half. The two goals that gave Malaysia the three points were scored by naturalized player Paulo Josue in the 70th and 83rd minutes. The hosts also won 3-2 in the Malaysia vs Timor Leste match in the 2024 AFF Cup.
