Winning narrowly, the Gunners moved up to 2nd position in the standings
London, Beritasatu.com – The English Premier League match in north London on Saturday (28/12/2024) early morning WIB between Arsenal vs Ipswich Town ended with a score of 1-0.
The results at the Emirates Stadium were enough for Arsenal to move up to second place in the English Premier League standings with 36 points. On the other hand, Ipswich Town remains in second place from bottom of the standings (19th) with 12 points from 18 matches. They are three points away from the safe zone.
Arsenal’s only goal was scored by Kai Havertz in the first half, using a clever pass from Leandro Trossard. Despite dominating the match, The Gunners failed to take advantage of opportunities to score more goals.
Bukayo Saka’s absence due to injury caused Arsenal’s creativity to decline slightly. It took 19 minutes for them to get their first shot off, before Havertz scored his sixth goal of the season in all competitions in the 23rd minute. The goal came from Leandro Trossard’s cross which Havertz managed to maximize well.
In the second half of the Arsenal vs Ipswich match, the visiting team put up resistance. But their pressure did not last long.
Arsenal had several golden opportunities to double their lead. Defender Gabriel Magalhaes failed to capitalize from a corner kick, while captain Martin Odegaard also wasted a chance with a shot that went over the bar.
This victory made Arsenal collect 36 points, six points adrift of leaders Liverpool who still have one game remaining. Arsenal also leapfrogged city rivals Chelsea and Nottingham Forest, who are in third and fourth place respectively.
Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, expressed his satisfaction after the match. “I’m very happy with this win, the clean sheet and mostly the team’s performance. We should have scored more goals, but consistency is the most important thing,” he said.
“Considering all the challenges we have faced this season, including playing with 10 men in some games and player injuries, this position is very satisfying. But our goal is to be first,” he added.
After the Arsenal vs Ipswich match, The Gunners undergoing a busy schedule. They will visit Brentford’s headquarters on New Year’s Day, then face Brighton & Hove Albion on January 4 2025. After that, Arsenal will play two domestic cup matches before hosting Tottenham Hotspur on January 15 2025.
