World Cup matches of the Dutch national team can be followed on large screens at the end of this year in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The KNVB renames Ajax’s stadium ‘House of Orange’.
There is room for 55,000 spectators in the ArenA per match. Tickets are for sale from 17.50 euros. Around the matches, various artists perform and iconic Orange images are shown.
Only the opening match of the Dutch team against Senegal will not be broadcast in the stadium. Due to the early start time of 11.00 am, that duel can be seen in AFAS Live, which is located next to the ArenA and can accommodate four thousand people.
National coach Louis van Gaal is in favour of the ‘House of Orange’. “During the World Cup in Brazil, I noticed that we didn’t get much of the Orange madness in the Netherlands. I thought that was a shame, because any support for the team is welcome,” he says.
“In addition, I believe that the images of the ‘House of Orange’ show the players and feel how strong the fans in the Netherlands are behind the team. This way they can give the players an extra boost.”

Many Dutch fans stay at home
The enthusiasm of the Dutch fans to go to Qatar is not that big yet. According to the KNVB, about four thousand tickets have been sold for the group matches in Qatar.
Commercial director Jean Paul Decossaux of the KNVB: “Most fans experience the World Cup in their own country, just like most of our partners. That is why we are taking care of the biggest football party in the Netherlands with the ‘House of Orange’.”
“In the Netherlands, we are pulling out all the stops for a final tournament of orange. Streets are decorated, neighbors watch tv together outside and the matches are experienced together. This year, however, the World Cup starts in November, so the weather makes such parties outside impossible.”
The World Cup starts on November 21 with the opening match between the Netherlands and Senegal. Ecuador and host country Qatar are the Orange’s other opponents in the group stage. The final is on December 18 at the Lusail Iconic Stadium.
