Erick Thohir Denies Joachim Low Becomes Technical Director of PSSI

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir denied that former German National Team coach Joachim Low would serve as Technical Director of PSSI.

According to him, there are still many things that need to be done by PSSI to improve Indonesian football before recruiting someone like Joachim Low.

“Big mistake. I think of course he wants that big (Joachim Low), but we ourselves are targeting 100 from 150 in a few years, in the short term. Of course the image of Indonesian football internationally is still not good,” said Erick Thohir to media crew at Central Jakarta area, Monday (17/7/2023).

Erick Thohir said that if PSSI wanted to attract someone like Joachim Low, several things had to be fixed. Some of these problems, such as late salary payments, unclear player protection and others.

However, Erick Thohir admitted that PSSI is approaching a party who will fill the position of technical director. However, the BUMN Minister has not revealed the name of the candidate.

“So if we want to attract a coach of that class, well, we’ll be good first. But the technical director who we will sign for assistance, mentoring for 4 months is also good. It will be announced when it’s time,” explained Erick Thohir.

What is certain, Erick Thohir said, is that the technical director of PSSI must have extensive experience. Thus, this figure can coordinate with coach Shin Tae-yong. In addition, the technical director will be accompanied by a young coach.

“This technical director will be accompanied by young coaches who can train throughout Indonesia. So the technical director will focus on the national team, how is the plan for Indonesian football culture. However, the standardization of trainers in Indonesia has a special coach,” he said .
