Deleted Photos Appear Again on iPhone Due to iOS 17.5 Bug! This is Apple's explanation
Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Apple was heavily attacked after two weeks ago, the iOS 17.5 update rolled out to all iPhone users turned out to have an unusual bug.
In the iOS 17.5 update, it turns out there was a bug which made photos that had been deleted by users several years previously appear in the iPhone and iPad Photos gallery.
Not only that, on a number of iPhone and iPad devices that have been factory reset, the old photos still reappear.
Having been sprayed by their users, the Cupertino-based company finally released it patches or fixes important iOS 17.5 bugs and addresses the issue of old photos reappearing.
“This patch brings important bug fixes, and addresses a rare issue where photos were damaged databases can reappear in the iPhone Photos gallery even if it has been deleted,” explained Apple.
The company claims that the iOS 17.5 bug only affected a small number of users and some photos on users' iPhone and iPad devices.
While Apple initially blamed the problem on a “corrupted database,” the company has now explained more about what caused the problem.
Quoting the report 9to5MacSaturday (25/5/2024), Apple explained that the problem was not with iCloud Photos, but with the database on the device itself.
In short, the photos that reappear are the ones that weren't synced to the cloud. Because of this, when the device is restored from backup–or a device-to-device transfer–some photos also appear again (from the backup on the device, not from iCloud).
Apple suggests that if users want to ensure that the photos in the gallery are deleted correctly or lost, there is a way.
How to Permanently Delete Photos or Content on iPhone
- In Settings, open General, then select “Transfer or Reset.”
- When clicked, the option “Erase All Content and Settings” or “Erase All Content and Settings” appears.
- Click this option and all content on the phone will be erased, with no way to restore iPhone and iPad data in the future.
