Losing to Persis Solo, Persib is Eliminated

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Liga 1 champion Persib Bandung was eliminated from the 2024 President’s Cup pre-season tournament after suffering a second defeat against Persis Solo at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Thursday (25/7/2024) evening.

The only goal scored by Persis in their third match was scored by Indonesian national team striker Ramadhan Sananta. The winning goal for the team from Solo was scored in the 20th minute.

After receiving a pass from the right side, Sananta released a left-footed shot towards the top right corner which was difficult for the goalkeeper to reach. The score changed to 1-0.

Persib actually had many opportunities to equalize the score both in the first and second half. The presence of new striker Dimas Drajad also failed to make the team from the capital of West Java score a goal. They also had time to bring in strikers David Da Silva and Ciro Alves. However, until the referee blew the long whistle, Bojan Hodak’s team was still behind 0-1.

This victory brought Persis to second place in the Group A standings with a collection of 4 points. The group champion was won by Borneo FC who picked up 7 points after drawing 1-1 against PSM Makassar in the previous match.

Persib is certainly eliminated because it only won 3 points and is perched in third place. While PSM Makassar is the bottom of group A after only winning 2 points.

Borneo FC and Persis have also secured their places in the semifinals to be held at Manahan Stadium Solo on July 30. Their potential opponents will still have to wait for the final match of the Group B preliminary round on Friday (7/26/2024) when Madura United plays Arema FC and Bali United plays Persija Jakarta.

Currently, Persija is still perched at the top of the standings with a collection of 4 points. While Arema FC is in second place with four points, but lost on goal difference. Madura United is perched in third place with 3 points. While Bali United is still in last place because it has not won any points.

The semifinal winners will play the final match which will also be held at Manahan Stadium Solo on Sunday (4/8/2024). The day before or on Saturday (3/8/2024) at the same stadium, the fight for third place will be held between the two losing teams in the semifinals.
