Junior International Grand Prix: Miftaqul and Sheila Advance to the Semifinals

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – A number of young Indonesian badminton players have managed to qualify for the semifinals of the 2023 Junior International Grand Prix.

From the U-17 women’s singles category, Sheila Lidia easily defeated the Thai women’s singles, Yataweemin Ketklieng 21-13, 21-13 at GOR PB Jaya Raya Bintaro, South Tangerang, Friday (21/7/2023).

“In the early set, I was still feeling the opponent’s game and trying to apply pressure. I can already read the opponent’s game because I’ve seen his performance. He’s also injured, so it’s easier to dictate his game,” said Sheila after the match.

Meanwhile, from the U-17 men’s singles assisted by Jaya Raya, Mohamad Rafly was under pressure before winning over Indonesian badminton player Yarits Al Kaaf 21-18, 21-13. “Earlier, there was a bit of tension too, because it was the first time meeting an opponent but trying not to rush. After several long rallies, the opponent seemed to be getting tired and making mistakes,” said Rafly.

In the semifinal match, Rafly will face ninth seed Denis Azzarya who previously won over 14th seed Yusack Christian 21-14, 21-12.

From the U-15 women’s singles, Miftaqul Putri Ayudis passed after defeating the 13th seed, Rhesti Fuji Ardina 21-23, 21-11, 21-17. Even though he won, Miftaqul said he still often made his own mistakes.

“I didn’t focus because the air at the GOR was very hot, so I couldn’t focus and made a mistake myself,” said Miftaqul after the match.

In the semifinals, Miftaqul will face Phattharin Aiamvareesrisakul from Thailand who defeated Indonesian player, Aulina Cheryl Gloria 21-13, 21-10.

“Before I never met him, but I already know a little bit of his playing pattern. He has a big body, so he has strong hitting power. I will focus on strengthening defense,” said Miftaqul.
