Winklevoss Brothers Injects USD 4.5 Million BTC Capital into Bitcoin Football Club

Liputan6.com, Jakarta The Winklevoss twins agree with Bitcoin podcaster Peter McCormack's vision to take Real Bedford FC to the English Premier League. Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss have joined as co-owners of Bitcoin podcaster Peter McCormack's Real Bedford Football Club (RBFC) after investing USD 4.5 million worth of Bitcoin to support the club's plans.

The Winklevoss twins execute investments and acquisitions through their investment firm, Winklevoss Capital. The funding will be used to establish a Bitcoin treasury for the club, with McCormack telling Cointelegraph that the treasury aims to protect the club from long-term declines in fiat value.

“The investment helps infrastructure. “We need to develop it with our ambition,” explained McCormack, quoted from Cointelegraph, Sunday (14/4/2024).

In addition, the funds will be allocated for the development of a new training center and ongoing support for women's and youth football.

In 2021, McCormack acquired RBFC, based in his English hometown of Bedford, with a population of just under 200,000. He has ambitions for RBFC, which accepts Bitcoin for matchday tickets, merchandise, sponsorship and drinks to compete in the English Premier League alongside famous British clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea.

“We are still far from the Premier League. As exciting as our ambitions are, I am working one league at a time,” said McCormack.
