Xiaomi and Leica Announce Special Institute for Optics, Encourage Smartphone Camera Innovation

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Xiaomi and Leica Camera AG announced collaboration in establishing the Xiaomi x Leica Optical Institute. The presence of this institution is said to be an important milestone in the smartphone industry.

As the name suggests, this Xiaomi and Leica collaboration institute focuses on optical technology as its core. So, this institute will bring together integrated interdisciplinary science, including digital imaging and AI technology.

In an official statement received, Saturday (25/2/2024), this institute is here to develop innovative industry standards for mobile device performance, while simultaneously raising standards in technology and user experience.

Explained further, this initiative places great emphasis on philosophy, technology and user experience. The results of the collaboration between these two companies can be seen in the Xiaomi 14 Ultra which will be released soon.

“Through Xiaomi x Leica Optical Institute, we will increasingly leverage each other's strengths to continue expanding the boundaries of mobile imaging capabilities and consistently lead the era of mobile imaging,” said Partner and President of Xiaomi Group, William Lu.

The institute focuses on four key technical factors, namely designing ultra-precise optics in a compact form factor, achieving ideal performance in computational photography, maintaining the strictest optical standards in lenses, and research and application of the latest optoelectronic technologies.

In order to achieve this goal, Xiaomi and Leica are both investing in resources. As a result, this collaboration succeeded in forming a joint team consisting of more than 200 experts.
