YouTube Gaming lets users give each other a paid subscription as a gift,
YouTube is testing a way for viewers and streamers to gift another paid subscription. For the time being, it concerns subscriptions to a small number of YouTube Gaming channels of American and British users, writes YouTube.
In the coming months, the feature should become available for many more channels. YouTube Gaming is a competitor to Twitch, a video streaming service that primarily plays games. That platform has long allowed users to distribute paid subscriptions to others.
A membership on a YouTube Gaming channel costs $ 4.99 (over 4.70 euros) per month. With a subscription, viewers get access to exclusive content from creators, such as certain emojis that can be used in chat.
People can gift a membership by clicking the dollar sign next to the chat window. Strangers can also receive a subscription as a gift. Recipients will receive a message about this.
The given subscriptions automatically expire after one month.
