Although the IMF did not provide further details regarding the breach, it confirmed it used the Microsoft 365 cloud-based email platform.

Previously, the Midnight Blizzard Russian hacker group associated with the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) stole Microsoft company emails.

A few days later, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) also revealed that Russian hackers had gained access to several Microsoft Office 365 email accounts and a lot of data since May 2023.

It is unclear whether this incident is related to the security breach that led to the breach of IMF email accounts.
