Apple says goodbye to the iPod after more than twenty years
Apple stops the production of its music player iPod, reports the company Tuesday. The iPod Touch, the last model Apple made, will remain available as long as there is stock. That model had not been renewed in recent years, so the end is not entirely unexpected.
The iPods were especially at the beginning of this century a popular way to listen to music before smartphones took over that role.
Apple released its first iPod in late 2001. That model offered space for a thousand songs. Later models became smaller and smaller and offered more space for music. Some models were given a color screen to watch movies on. The iPods could be recognized by a round button for the control, the so-called click wheel. By turning over it with the finger, users could move through their music list.
In 2007, Apple came up with the iPod Touch, a kind of iPhone without a phone function. The last generation of these was launched on the market in 2019.
Due to the rise of smartphones, fewer and fewer music players were sold for years. Music streaming services also reduced demand for the players, where you had to manually put music files on.
