Aston Villa Signs Pau Torres from Villarreal

– Aston Villa officially signed Spanish centre-back Pau Torres from Villarreal for an undisclosed transfer fee. Torres contracted Villa for five years.

British media reported that Torres had a release clause of 70 million euros. But with one year remaining on his contract with Villarreal, the English team reportedly agreed to a fee of around £31.5 million.

“The 26-year-old defender, who has represented his country 23 times, arrived at Villa for an undisclosed fee. Originally from Villarreal, Torres has become a key player for the La Liga side,” Aston Villa said in a statement.

Pau Francisco Torres has played for 20 seasons at Villarreal CF. He is the player who has played the most across all age groups at Villarreal. He started his career at Villarreal’s youth academy in 2003 at the age of 6.

Torres won the Europa League with Villarreal under coach Unai Emery who is now in charge of Villa. At that time Villarreal beat Manchester United in the 2021 final.

Torres is the second player brought in by Villa in the transfer market this summer after Youri Tielemans.
