Beat Vietnam, Iraq Challenge Japan in Semifinals

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Iraq U-23 national team (national team) will meet Japan U-23 in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup semifinal match after successfully defeating Vietnam U-23 in the quarter-finals at Al Janoub Stadium, Al Wakrah, Saturday (27/4/ 2024) early morning WIB.

Iraq managed to achieve a 1-0 victory over Vietnam through a penalty kick which was executed by Ali Jasim in the 64th minute.

Even though Vietnam tried to create a threat to Iraq's goal, their kick attempts failed to produce satisfactory results.

In the first half, Iraq had a chance with a header from defender Hussein Amer after receiving a free kick. However, the ball still hit the goal post.

In the second half, Radhi Shenaishil's team had another chance through Al Mosawe's kick which was blocked by Van Chuan. Iraq got a golden opportunity after getting a penalty kick because Nihad Mohammed was fouled in the penalty box by Van Chuan.

Ali Jasim, who acted as the executor, successfully executed the penalty kick so that Van Chuan could not reach it, changing the score to 1-0.

Despite being one goal ahead, Iraq continued to attack Vietnam's defense and had additional opportunities through Muntadher Mohammed and Ali Jasim, but both attempts were thwarted by Van Chuan.

Vietnam was forced to play with 10 players from the 90+1 minute after Nguyen Manh Hung was issued a straight red card by the referee for a foul on Ali Jasim. Until the final whistle blew, no goals had been scored and Iraq was the last team to qualify for the semifinals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.

The match between Iraq and Japan in the semifinals will be held at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, Al Rayyan, on Tuesday (30/4/2024) at 00.30 WIB.
