Chelsea vs Brighton: The Blues Only Win Thin Against 10 Players

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Chelsea picked up a narrow 4-3 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in a trial party titled Premier League Summer Series at the Lincoln Financial Field Stadium, Philadelphia, Saturday (22/7/2023) local time or Sunday (23/7/2023) morning WIB.

Brighton played with 10 men from the 60th minute. They were able to score two goals even though they appeared with fewer players than Chelsea.

This is Chelsea’s second victory in the trial party in the United States. Previously, The Blues thrashed League 2 club Wrexham 5-0 on 19 July.

In the match against Brighton, coach Mauricio Pochettino, displayed a 4-2-3-1 formation. He featured new player Christopher Nkunku as the lone striker up front.

The French striker is supported by Raheem Sterling, Carney Chukwuemeka and Ian Maatsen. Two midfielders Conor Gallagher and Andrey Santos, a duet in front of the back line which is filled with Malo Gusto, Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill and Ben Chilwell. The goalkeeper position was entrusted to Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Meanwhile, Brighton’s coach, Roberto De Zerbi, also carried out a 4-2-3-1 formation, featuring Danny Welbeck as the sole striker.

The former Manchester United and Arsenal player was supported by a trio of Kaoru Mitoma, Adam Lallana and Solly March. Two midfielders Billy Gilmour and Mahmoud Dahoud anchored the front row.

Adam Webster and Jan Paul Van Hecke guarded the heart of the defense as a duet and were accompanied by Pascal Gross on the left and Jack Hinshelwood on the left. They escorted goalkeeper Jason Steele.

Welbeck put Brighton ahead in the 13th minute. But Chelsea only needed six minutes to equalize through the action of Christopher Nkunku. The 1-1 draw lasted until the first half ended.

Brighton were reduced to 10 men after Van Hecke was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in the 60th minute. Five minutes later, Chelsea also took the lead through the player who had replaced Ian Maatsen since the start of the second half, Mykhailo Mudryk.

Chelsea added to the advantage in the 72nd minute thanks to the action of Conor Gallagher. The Blues it only took four minutes to score again and lead 4-1 thanks to the action of Nicolas Jackson.

Despite appearing with 10 players, Brighton was still able to score two goals in return. In the 79th minute, they narrowed the deficit to 2-4 thanks to a goal scored from the penalty spot by Welbeck’s substitute, Joao Pedro.

Brighton scored again 10 minutes later through Deniz Undav. The 4-3 score for Chelsea’s advantage lasted until the match was over.
