Completely defeated 1-7 by Thailand, Indonesia failed to reach the final of the AFF U-19 Women’s Cup
– The Indonesian women’s national team suffered a heavy defeat with a score of 1-7 against Thailand in the semifinals of the 2023 Women’s U-19 AFF Cup which was held at the Gelora Sriwijaya Jakabaring Stadium, Palembang, South Sumatra, Thursday (13/7/2023) evening.
Garuda Pertiwi Muda was forced to play defensively throughout the match to withstand the attacks that were continuously launched by the opposing team since the beginning of the first half.
Things started to get chaotic for Sheva Imut and her friends after Fani was sent off after three minutes of the match.
A surprising incident occurred when the goalkeeper of the Indonesian Women’s National Team was given a red card by the referee for a foul on Chattaya Pratumkul in the defensive line.
Indonesia had to survive with a shortage of players on the front lines because Mayzura Alifa Yusuf was replaced by the second goalkeeper for the Indonesian national team, Shesilia Putri Desrina.
Thawanrat Promthongmee scored the first goal for Thailand by taking advantage of the unpreparedness of the Indonesian players who changed positions several times after substitutions.
Indonesia had leveled the score at 1-1 through a goal scored by Claudia Alexandra Scheunemann in the 24th minute.
However, shortly after the stadium roared with celebration, Thailand scored again through a quick counter attack which was headed in by Anaphon Amanpong in the 26th minute.
The joy for Anaphon Amanpong and Thawanrat Promthongmee added when they both scored their next two goals, taking Thailand’s lead to 4-1 in the first half.
After the drinking break, the situation did not improve for Garuda Pertiwi Muda. They continued to be under pressure and conceded three goals.
Coach Sawin Jaraspetcharanan’s team managed to score three goals in a row, so that Thailand finally made sure to qualify for the final round with a landslide victory 7-1.
“We will provide input to AFF for evaluation. Apart from that, in football anything can happen. We will focus on the match for third place against Myanmar,” said Rudi.
Meanwhile, the Thailand Women’s National Team will face Vietnam in the 2023 Women’s U-19 AFF Cup final, Saturday, July 15. Vietnam has the right to appear in the final after defeating Myanmar with a score of 2-1 in the semifinal match at the Jakabaring Sriwijaya Stadium in the match before Indonesia against Thailand.
