Crowded with Nikuba Problems, BRIN Pushes for These Findings to Be Scientifically Tested

On the other hand, the Director of Utilization of Research and Innovation at Ministries/Agencies, Communities, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of BRIN Dadan Nugraha said that his party really appreciates, appreciates and even encourages the emergence of innovations from the wider community, including Nikuba’s findings.

“Of course, in order for these findings to be widely applied and utilized, they need to be validated according to scientific principles (scientific), registered to obtain Intellectual Property (IP) protection, as well as refined and certified according to applicable regulations,” he said.

Dadan said, BRIN could facilitate innovations originating from the community through the FIAR scheme or Grassroots Innovation Facilitation. The facility is intended so that innovations originating from the community can be scientifically tested and proven, protected, and meet the standards set by the regulator.

“Currently we are studying and conducting a review of approximately 80 potential grassroots innovations originating from various regions in Indonesia. Further assistance will be carried out involving researchers from the appropriate fields,” he continued.

Some examples of grassroots innovations that have been identified and proposed are appropriate technology machines (TTG), waste treatment technology, alternative fuels, digital technology applications, the use of IoT in agriculture, to diversification of food processing.

This program is also open to the public, both individuals and groups that are not from government institutions, industry, universities or research institutions. Dadan also emphasized that FIAR is not a direct financing incentive, but rather technical assistance.

In other words, BRIN does not provide assistance in the form of funds or equipment, but rather a budget at-cost according to the needs of each activity.

“We encourage that more and more innovations produced by the grassroots are sanitized, protected, meet regulatory requirements, are implemented/commercialized, and provide an economic impact for the innovators,” said Dadan closing his statement.
