Defeating Malaysia, China meets Indonesia in the Thomas Cup final

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – China will meet Indonesia in the 2024 Thomas Cup final after stopping Malaysia's resistance, 3-1, in the semifinals on Saturday (4/5/2024).

China will play Indonesia, Sunday (5/5/2024), at the Hi-Tech Zone Sports Center Gymnasium, Chengdu, China. This is Indonesia's third final in three consecutive years. Meanwhile for China, this is their first final after 2020.

China last won in 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. Meanwhile, Indonesia last became champion four years ago, when the match was held in Aarhuis, Denmark. Indonesia entered the final in 2022 when this championship was held in Bangkok, Thailand, but lost against India.

In this event, India stopped in the quarter-finals, after losing 1-3 to hosts China.

Indonesia advanced to the final after beating Taiwan 3-0. Merah Putih won in the first three matches, namely Anthony Sinisuka Ginting's singles, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto's doubles, and Jonatan Christie's doubles.

Meanwhile, China featured Shi Yu Qi who defeated Lee Zii Jia, 21-19 and 21-5. In the second match, Chinese doubles representatives Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang surrendered to Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, 21-15, 12-21, and 17-21.

China took the lead again after in the third match, Li Shi Feng beat Leong Jun Hao with a score of 21-17, 21-10. The hosts secured victory over Malaysia thanks to the double success of He Ji Ting/Ren Xiang Yu in defeating opponents Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin, 18-21, 21-19 and 21-12.
