I recently “fell” into one of those YouTube videos full of tips for freelancers and I was surprised by the amount of superficial information that people put there – and even more surprised by the number of people who believe in it!

As a form of manifesto, today I decided to expose a “secret” that I have kept with me for a long time: how I managed to double my monthly income and, at the same time, halve my workload.

Without further ado, the secret is this: double the value of your services.

Let's assume you charge R$100/Hour for a Marketing consultancy service.

Today you have 10 clients who pay you this amount and, in total, they consume approximately 20 hours of your week (assuming that one hour is the consultancy itself and the other is dedicated to organizing demands).

In other words, your revenue per week is R$1,000.

If you double your rate to R$200/Hour and half of your customers decide to cancel with you (which is very unlikely if you have done good and differentiated work so far) you will…

Before you despair and start cursing me in the comments, let's get to the observations:

    1. I only recommend putting this into practice for people or companies that are already at their workload limit due to high demand. If you are starting now, your focus should be on getting as many customers as possible to establish your name in the market, even if you need to charge less to do so;
    2. Although I have already seen some small companies putting this secret into practice, it is undeniable that it is much more applicable to freelancers and/or self-employed professionals. Companies are naturally bureaucratic and less flexible in relation to the amounts charged;
    3. This will only work in your case if you are a good professional. If you are mediocre, don't even think about doubling your value because probably no client will see the point in that;
  1. This secret has worked for me and several people/companies I know, but it definitely won't work for everyone. Therefore, use the information presented at your own risk.
