Erick Thohir Says He Will Intervene If There Are Naughty Referees

– PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir said he would intervene if he found illegal fees in the selection of referees.

Nevertheless, Erick doubts if the circulating rumors are true. This is because the referee selection process is quite strict and is directly monitored by referee instructors from Japan.

“If there is, tell me. If it’s true, I’ll bite it myself. That (selection) has been supervised by Ogawasa from Japan,” said Erick Thohir in a press conference at the Danareksa Tower, Wednesday (5/7/2023).

He guarantees that the referees work very professionally and are rather difficult to interrupt while on duty.

“I think these Japanese referees are invited to watch Argentina, they don’t want to because their commitments haven’t been completed. But if there’s really extortion, tell me, let me bite,” he continued.

Erick also revealed his reasons for becoming the leader of the Referee Committee.

According to him, this is intended so that no other party tries to take personal advantage in the implementation of football in Indonesia.

“I lead this refereeing committee myself. If there is anything strange, you can be punished for life. If it’s in the police, it’s only for a few years. If it’s in the committee, it’s for life,” he concluded.
