Expert: KPU Sirekap Could Be a Reference for Monitoring the 2024 Election Vote Counting Results

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – It is said that the data collected by the Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap) from the General Election Commission (KPU) can still be trusted by the public as a reference for the 2024 Election vote counting results.

However, Cyber ​​Security Expert from the University of Indonesia (UI) Setiadi Yazid, said the KPU needed to do two important things to be able to maintain public trust in Sirekap.

“Theoretically (Sirekap data) can be trusted. But trust is between two parties, the KPU must open itself up. Fix the problematic system,” said Setiadi, quoted from Antara, Sunday (18/2/2024).

He added that there were things that did not make sense that the KPU had to fix, and they had to be fixed as quickly as possible.

“Indeed, they have to correct things that don't make sense. So all reported errors are immediately corrected. So it is necessary to build trust between the KPU and the public,” said Setiadi.

The first thing the KPU must do so that Sirekap can be trusted by the public is to be responsive in making data improvements. According to him, this is not difficult considering that the software used is easy for managers to monitor.

Thus, when there is an error from the program which reads the incorrect handwriting from Form C1 plano at each polling station (TPS), the manager can immediately change the incorrect data.

“It's not difficult, it should be easy to check and change, so this is not a movement to change and win over one party. The error is from the software but it is easy to fix,” he said.
