Failing miserably in 2024, the Indonesian Men's Team Still Has the Largest Collection of BATC Titles

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Indonesian men's team failed miserably at the 2024 Asian Team Badminton Championship (BATC) at the Setia City Convention Center, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia, Friday (16/2/2024).

Even though it failed miserably, Indonesia is still the country that has collected the most BATC titles. The Indonesian men's team won BATC in 2016, 2018, 2020.

In 2022, Indonesia could still be runner up. In the biennial final, also held in Selangor, Malaysia, the Indonesian men's team was defeated by the hosts. However, the Indonesian women's team emerged as champions at that time. Now, the women's team has reached the semifinals.

As previously reported, Indonesia was defeated by China 2-3, Friday (16/2/2024). With this defeat, Indonesia failed to reach the semifinals.

Since the Badminton Asia Team Championships or BATC was held in 2016, only this year has the Indonesian men's team failed to reach the final. In fact, you can't even get to the semifinals.

In the quarter-finals against China, men's singles player Yohanes Saut Marcellyno was defeated by Wang Zheng Xing 15-21, 22-24.

With this defeat, Indonesia surrendered 2-3 to China. Indonesia also failed to reach the semifinals of BATC 2024.

Previously, Indonesia trailed 0-1 after Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo lost in the first match. Chico surrendered to Hong Yang Weng in two straight games.

In the second match, Bagas/Fikri won in straight sets over Ren Xiang Yu/He Ji Ting 21-19, 21-19. With this victory, Indonesia equalized 1-1 against China.

In the third match, Indonesian men's singles Alwi Farhan was defeated by China's mainstay, Lei Lan Xi 14-21, 10-21.

Indonesia then equalized 2-2 through Indonesian men's doubles Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin who beat the resistance of Chinese duo Chen Bo Yang/Liu Yi 21-14, 21-18.

“The result was that I lost and was not satisfactory. I apologize to the Indonesian badminton public. Also to teammates and coaches. “However, from my performance today, in the future I will try to continue to develop my abilities,” said Yohanes Saut.
