Government Prepares Task Force to Eradicate Online Gambling, Resolves Problem More Comprehensively

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The government will form an integrated task force to eradicate online gambling. According to the Minister of Communication and Information (Communications and Information) Budi Arie Setiadi, the integrated task force is targeted to start working within the next week.

The Minister of Communication and Information said that the formation of the task force was aimed at solving the problem of online gambling more comprehensively by sharpening coordination between ministries and institutions.

“This week, steps will be taken to form an integrated task force in the context of eradicating online gambling,” said the Minister of Communication and Information after the Internal Meeting regarding Indonesia's Online Gambling Emergency, according to a press release received, Friday (19/4/2024).

The Minister of Communication and Information explained that the Ministry of Communication and Information will focus on handling content and online gambling sites. Meanwhile, handling will be carried out by related institutions and law enforcement officials.

“This gambling is illegal by law, so strengthening measures (to eradicate it) need to be carried out effectively,” said Budi Arie.

The government continues to encourage efforts to eradicate online gambling. Previously, Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Nezar Patria stated that his party would continue to monitor and terminate access to negative content in the digital space, including online gambling.

Nezar said that the Ministry of Communication and Information's AIS team, which was tasked with eradicating negative content, even worked 24 hours non-stop with three shifts.

“Around 150 people on the 8th Floor of the Kominfo Building are fighting against online gambling, working 24 hours a day with three shifts,” he said recently.

Nezar Patria explained that the AIS Kominfo Team monitors the spread of negative content using artificial intelligence technology as well web crawling.
