IMI Holds E-Karting at IKN in October 2024

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – General Chairman of the Indonesian Motorcycle Association (IMI) Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) stated his readiness together with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) to hold the championship e-karting in the Archipelago Capital (IKN) next October.

Through the IMI website, he explained that this activity was a continuation of the success of the 2023 Electric Karting Race which was held by IMI together with the Ministry of PUPR in December last year at the EV PUPR Circuit in Bandung, West Java.

“The existence of the EV Circuit is a means for the IKN community to channel their interest in racing, so that from there international outstanding racing athletes can be born who can make the nation proud,” said Bamsoet at the 2nd IMI plenary meeting this year.

Furthermore, he said that to prepare for the championship, IMI and PUPR would immediately build an EV circuit at IKN. The construction will follow the PUPR EV Circuit model in Bandung, West Java, which is 986 meters long and eight meters wide.

The EV circuit uses various road pavement technologies, such as asphalt porousplastic asphalt, rubber asphalt, concrete porouspavement fly ash bottom ash (FABA), and light deposits.

According to Bamsoet, the circuit will not only be a racing venue, but can also become an automotive tourism destination which will have a positive impact on the community's economy.

Apart from the e-karting plan, IMI will also support the implementation of MotoGP which will take place on 27-29 September at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, NTB. They hope to attract hundreds of thousands of spectators, after the previous year the Mandalika MotoGP succeeded in attracting around 103,000 spectators over three days of racing.

Bamsoet added that thanks to close collaboration with the Central Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), IMI succeeded in including Mini 4WD, better known as Tamiya, as one of the exhibition sports in the XXI National Sports Week (PON) in Aceh-North Sumatra, on September 8-20. This sport will compete in two numbers, namely Indonesia dumper class (IDC) and Indonesia open class (IOC).

Tamiya's presence in PON, said Bamsoet, is because the game has remained popular from the 1990s until now, and is still in demand by both children and adults. This competition is similar to car racing because it requires special skills in modifying various components, from dynamos, chassis, to tires.
