Introduced, Lionel Messi Officially Becomes a New Inter Miami Player

– Inter Miami has officially announced the recruitment of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi at the DRV PNK Stadium Saturday (15/7/2023) evening local time.

The 2022 World Cup winner is the recruit with the highest transfer fee in MLS history. The 36-year-old has signed a two-and-a-half season contract with an option until 2026.

“I’m really excited to start the next step in my career with Inter Miami and in the United States,” said Messi.

“This is a fantastic opportunity and together we will continue to build on this beautiful project. The idea is to work together to achieve the goals we have set. I am very excited to start helping out here in my new home.”

In a post on Twitter, Inter Miami tweeted “Bienvenido” (welcome) with a photo of Messi wearing it jersey number 10 is pink.

Messi’s contract in Miami is unique in world football as he also gets a share of the profits from Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass and sales of Adidas jerseys to Inter Miami.

The Argentina international has reportedly turned down a more lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League, which would have seen him compete in direct competition with arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi is expected to make his Inter Miami debut against Charlotte FC at the DRV PNK Stadium on July 21.
