Knee Injury, Belgian Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois Absent from Euro 2024

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Belgian national team coach, Domenico Tedesco, has confirmed that goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will not be in action at Euro 2024 or Euro 2024.

Courtois has been absent from matches for his club, Real Madrid, throughout the 2023/2024 season due to a knee ligament injury. In March 2024, further problems with his knee forced Courtois to undergo additional surgery.

Despite having appeared in 102 matches for the national team since his debut in 2011, Courtois admitted last December that an injury to his left knee had made him give up hope of playing at this year's Euros.

Tedesco told German media: “I don't want to make judgments about the past. Everything has been explained.”

Courtois' relationship with Tedesco has deteriorated since June 2023, when he was not selected as national team captain after Kevin De Bruyne was injured and Romelu Lukaku was selected as captain.

Tedesco confirmed that Courtois had given permission for the Belgian coaching staff to look for other options.

Carlos Ancelotti, coach of the Real Madrid club where Courtois plays, hopes that the goalkeeper who once played for Chelsea can return to play against Cadiz on Saturday, before next week's Champions League semi-final match. Currently, Courtois' position at Real Madrid has been replaced by Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.
