Lazio vs AC Milan Result 0-1, Boss Claudio Lotito Blames the System in the Italian League

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Lazio owner, Claudio Lotito, was angry with the three red cards given by referee Marco Di Bello when his team lost to AC Milan in Week 27 of the Serie A match at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Friday (1/3/2024) evening local time or Saturday (2/3/2024) early morning WIB.

AC Milan managed to bring home three points through Noah Okafor's only goal in the 88th minute. Lazio had to finish the match with eight players because of three red cards received by Luca Pellegrini in the 57th minute, as well as Adam Marusic and Matteo Guendouzi in the 90th minute.

“When the system is unreliable, we have to ask ourselves,” Lotito was quoted as saying AFP.

Lotito highlighted the need to establish an independent body to oversee the performance of referees in Italy.

“A referee must be able to understand the breaking point. This league needs to have an independent supervisory body that is outside the current system,” he added.

Meanwhile, AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli admitted that the match against Lazio was very heated. Apart from the three red cards, 10 yellow cards were also issued from the referee's pocket, the result of 36 violations during 90 minutes.

“This was a match with a lot of fouls, we couldn't get much rhythm going,” said Pioli.

He considered the additional three points to be important for the Rossoneri to be able to compete at the top of the Italian League standings.

“This is a big win looking at the matches played this weekend. We are trying to make this season positive because we still have big goals to achieve,” added Pioli.

AC Milan is currently in third place with 56 points, 13 points behind leaders Inter Milan and one point behind second place Juventus. Inter will only compete on Tuesday (5/3/2024) early morning WIB by hosting Genoa, while Juve visit the headquarters of defending champions Napoli, Monday (4/3/2024) early morning WIB.

Meanwhile, Lazio is stuck in ninth place with 40 points, four points different from city rivals AS Roma in sixth position or the Europa League zone.
