Menkominfo Budi Arie Setiadi Outspokenly Turns Out to Be a Victim of Online Gambling Promotion via WhatsApp and SMS

The Ministry of Communication and Information continues to work to stop the spread of online gambling content among the public. One way to do this is by terminating access to online gambling content circulating on the internet.

According to the Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi, the Ministry of Communication and Information has terminated access or taken down 846,047 online gambling content during 2018 to 19 July 2023. In the past week, access has also been cut off to around 11 thousand online gambling content.

“In fact, in the last week from 13 to 19 July 2023, Kominfo has cut off access to 11,333 online gambling content,” he said in a press conference held in Jakarta, Thursday (20/7/2023).

Further explained, the implementation of the termination of access itself was carried out based on the findings of the Ministry of Communication and Information’s cyber patrol, including complaints originating from the public as well as Ministries or Institutions.

Only then is verification carried out, as well as requests for recommendations from the relevant Ministries or Institutions.

“Specifically for gambling content, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics can terminate immediately if the content is found on a site,” said the Minister of Communication and Information continued.

Meanwhile, if the content is on social media, his party will ask the platform manager to delete the content.
