Paris 2024 Olympic Play-off Indonesia vs Guinea will be held behind closed doors, this is FIFA's reason

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – FIFA announces the match play-offs The 2024 Paris Olympics between the Indonesian U-23 National Team (Timnas) and the U-23 Guinean National Team on May 9 2024 will be held behind closed doors for security reasons.

“FIFA+ will broadcast live the closed match between Indonesia and Guinea on May 9,” said FIFA's statement as quoted on the official FIFA website in Jakarta, Saturday (4/5/2024).

FIFA explained that French security authorities would not allow the match to be held openly ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. FIFA said that the match between Indonesia and Guinea would take place at Clairefontaine, the center of French national football.

The two countries will fight for one remaining ticket to participate in the four-yearly event. Currently, there are 15 of the 16 teams that will take part in the men's Olympic football tournament.

“You can watch the deciding play-off match between Indonesia and Guinea live on FIFA+,” said FIFA.

The match between the Indonesian U-23 National Team and Guinea was the last opportunity for Garuda Muda to repeat its history of qualifying for the Olympics, having previously participated in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.

Squad coach Shin Tae-yong previously missed out on an automatic place to qualify for the Olympics, after losing to Iraq with a score of 1-2 in the match for third place in the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Doha, Qatar, Thursday (2/5/ 2024).

Guinea, a representative of the African continent, is the fourth ranked team in the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations. At senior level, based on the FIFA rankings released in April, Guinea is ranked 76th in FIFA with 1,324.65 points, while Indonesia is ranked 134th with a score of 1,102.7 points.
