The platform also secures hosted data using advanced encryption. In a white paper published in December 2014, Storj was first introduced to the world as a concept that would be a decentralized peer-to-peer encrypted cloud storage platform.

Just like other networks, Storj has its own cryptocurrency with the same name, namely STORJ Coin. STORJ is a cryptocurrency issued on the Ethereum blockchain.

Based on data from Coinmarketcap, the price of STORJ Coin is USD 11,034 with a 24-hour trading volume of around IDR 1.33 trillion. STORJ Coin managed to gain 0.53 percent in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the current Coinmarketcap ranking is 188, up from the previous 314. STORJ Coin has a market capitalization of around IDR 4.48 trillion. To date, there has been a circulating supply of 409.5 million STORJ Coins, out of which the maximum supply is not available.

Founder of Storj

Storj was founded by Shawn Wilkinson in May 2014. Wilkinson is a software developer based in Atlanta. He looked at how blockchain technology could be leveraged to build decentralized cloud storage networks.

Together with his co-founder, John Quinn, the first white paper was published in late 2014. Since then, the concept and details have changed. The current version of Storj, V3, was launched in mid-2019.

In addition to being a blockchain enthusiast, Quinn has an extensive background in business development. Before founding his own projects (including Storj), he had been involved in the investment banking industry. This concept was eventually incorporated as a company Storj Labs Inc.
