The Indonesian Volleyball Team Fails to Advance to the Semifinals of the AVC Challenge Cup

The Indonesian men’s volleyball team failed to advance to the semifinals of the 2023 AVC Challenge Cup after being defeated by Thailand.

In the round of six match of the AVC Challenge Cup for Men 2023, Indonesia lost 2-3 (20-25, 27-25, 25-20, 16-25, 12-15).

In the last six of the AVC Challenge Cup which was held in Taiwan, Thursday (13/7/2023), Indonesia had to lose its flagship toser, Dio Zulfikri. Dio suffered an injury due to a collision with M Malizi in the middle of the first set.

Dio was also unable to continue the match and could only support his team-mates from the sidelines with ice compressed feet.

Fortunately, his successor, Nizar Julfikar, can replace Dio very well. Nizar is able to carry out his duties by providing charming baits for his colleagues.

Starting the match, coach Jeff Jiang presented the formations of Rivan Nurmulki, Dio, Farhan Halim, Hernanda Zulfi, Hendra Kurniawan and Doni Haryono.

Farhan had played badly, so his position was replaced by young player Boy Arnez.

In the fourth set, Jeff Jiang made many changes after falling behind. Rivan was pulled out to be replaced by Agil Angga. Farhan returned to replace Doni.

In the deciding set, Indonesia was behind by 4 points, but was able to turn ahead. However, the service launched by the Thai players was not well anticipated by the Indonesian players.

Thailand will next face Vietnam in the semifinals, having previously beaten Taiwan.
