Today, Jokowi visits the Jalak Harupat Stadium and selects the U-17 national team
– The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), is scheduled to pay a visit to the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung Regency, on Wednesday (12/7/2023) morning. During the visit, the President will be accompanied by the Chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir.
The purpose of this visit was to check the stadium ahead of the U-17 World Cup which will be held in Indonesia in November 2023. Until 08:05 WIB on Wednesday (12/7/23) morning, the President and his entourage had not yet arrived at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium .
Prior to their arrival, the relevant parties had sterilized the stadium, and several young football players had also entered the stadium to take part in the selection for the U-17 national team. Apart from that, President Jokowi’s visit to the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium was also at the same time to see the selection process for prospective U-17 national team players at the West Java Province level.
PSSI has also announced via its official Instagram account that the city of Bandung will be the first city to host the U-17 national team selection.
“Keep witnessing the birth of young Indonesian talents in the selection of the Indonesian U-17 team in 12 cities. The city of Bandung is the first city in this selection process,” wrote a statement uploaded on PSSI’s official Instagram.
Previously, on Tuesday (11/7/2023), President Jokowi had inspected Kertajati Airport, Majalengka, and inaugurated the Cisundawu Highway with the Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil, and Erick Thohir. In the evening, Jokowi also visited the Creative Market in Bandung which was organized by the West Java Provincial Government.
After inspecting the stadium, President Jokowi plans to immediately depart for Husein Sastranegara Airport to return to Jakarta.
Previously reported by Beritasatu.com, the General Chairperson of PSSI, Erick Thohir, and the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, had held a coordination meeting regarding the holding of the 2023 U-17 World Cup on Friday (7/7/2023). After the coordination meeting, Erick Thohir conveyed three points related to plans for a closed meeting with President Joko Widodo, the venue for the U-17 World Cup, and preparations for the Indonesian U-17 national team.
“The administrative process is prioritized because there is a process in using the state budget. Therefore, God willing, the minister has proposed to the president to hold a discussion meeting on U17 next week,” said Erick Thohir.
