Tournament at the beginning of the year was not optimal, PBSI remains optimistic about winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Central Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) remains optimistic that Indonesia will win a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, even though the results in several tournaments at the start of the year were not optimal. Finally, Indonesia failed miserably at the 2024 Asian Team Championships (BATC).

“We are optimistic that we can win medals, with the potential for gold medals in several sectors, including men's singles, women's singles and men's doubles,” said PP PBSI Secretary General, Mohammad Fadil Imran, at the SIWO and PWI seminar in Jakarta, Saturday (17/2 /2024).

When asked about the target number of medals in Paris 2024, the head of the PBSI ad hoc team for the Paris 2024 Olympics was reluctant to provide details.

“Regarding how many medals are targeted, I cannot give it quantitatively, but as head of the ad hoc team entrusted with carrying out the golden tradition, we will try as much as possible, because there is still potential in all sectors,” explained Fadil Imran.

He hopes the players can work together and train hard. “Assuming the athletes maintain their mindset and work together, I am sure there is definitely a chance of winning a medal,” added Fadil.

Indonesian badminton athletes who are collecting qualifying points for Paris still have to take part in at least six tournaments until April 28, to ensure their ranking is safe and they qualify for the 2024 Olympics.

“We really take into account the participation of athletes in the race to the Olympics,” said Fadil Imran.

Several athletes are still recovering from injuries, such as women's doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.

Apri/Fadia is expected to be in top condition when taking part in the BWF Super 750 French Open and BWF Super 1000 All England Open tournaments.

“This is also a strategy to avoid the risk of further injury, there is a target that must be achieved. “We take into account the athlete's peak performance and health,” said Fadil.

Fadil Imran hopes to get support from all parties so that the players can perform optimally in Paris 2024.

“We need to improve our sports knowledge, organize the event calendar. We ask for prayers and support from all parties, both morally and financially,” concluded Fadil.
