This is the reason the Red Sparks coach extended Megawati's contract with a salary of IDR 2.4 billion

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Indonesian volleyball star Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi extended her contract with the Daejeon Jung Kwan Jang Red Sparks team for the 2024/2025 South Korean volleyball league season. Megawati will receive a salary of US$ 150,000 or around Rp. 2.4 billion, an increase compared to the previous season's salary of US$ 100,000.

Red Sparks coach Ko Hee-jin explained his reasons for bringing Megawati back as opposite hitter on the Red Sparks team. Apart from her convincing performance in the 2023/2024 season, Ko Hee-jin sees that no KOVO Women's Asia Quarter trial participant has better attacking power than Megawati.

“I feel there is no player who has greater attacking power than Mega,” said Ko Hee-jin as quoted by NaverThursday (2/5/2024).

In the 2023/2024 season, Megawati appeared for Red Sparks in 35 matches and scored 736 points with an attack success rate of 43.95%. Megawati was the key figure who brought the Red Sparks to the stage play offs for the first time in 7 years.

“I returned with Megawati with a happy heart,” he said.

Ko Hee-jin decided to work with Megawati again before the KOVO Women's Asia Quarter trials even started. However, he still pays attention to the players who take part in the trials. After watching match practice and various selections made by trial participants, Ko Hee-jin became increasingly convinced that there was no player as good as Megawati.

“Mega is a volleyball player with a great personality. This has a positive influence on our players. Teamwork is also good. I feel it is right to choose Mega,” he said.

Megawati is scheduled to train with the Red Sparks team in July 2024 after completing the 2024 Proliga with the Jakarta BIN team.
