YouTube stops data-saving YouTube Go app,

The YouTube Go app will no longer be supported as of August. The app was created in 2016 for cheaper phones and countries where the internet coverage left much to be desired. In the Netherlands, the app never appeared.

YouTube writes on its website that the need for YouTube Go has decreased in recent years. The company says it has made changes, which means that the regular YouTube app now works better in countries with poor coverage. Also, the app now works better on less powerful phones.

The creator of the video service advises people who use Go to switch to the regular YouTube app or to the browser version of the service.

YouTube Go is a stripped-down version of the normal YouTube. For example, people cannot use a dark mode and there is no possibility to comment under videos.

However, Go users could download videos to watch offline and could set a data limit in the app.
