Even more horrified, Pegasus spy software makers find 3 new ways to hack an iPhone

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Israeli company NSO makers of spy software Pegasus are known to have developed three new ways to hack iPhones. According to a report by Citizen Lab — an interdisciplinary lab based at the University of Toronto — NSO exploited vulnerabilities in Apple’s new version of iOS.

A report from Citizen Lab found that iPhones belonging to members of Mexican civil society, including two human rights activists, were infected with the Pegasus spying software.

To quote Calcalitech.com, Friday (21/4/2023), one of the iPhone devices infected with Pegasus belonged to Jorge Santiago Aguirre Espinoza, director of the human rights organization Centro PRODH. Previously Aguirre was the target of the Pegasus infection experiment in 2017.

According to published reports, spy software Pegasus was active on his iPhone between July 22 and July 13, 2022.

Another iPhone device infected with the Pegasus spying software belonged to an employee of the same organization, Maria Luisa Aguillar Rodriguez. The device was targeted by Pegasus on June 23, 2022.

Forensic analysts from these three devices indicated a new clickless exploit that exploits security vulnerabilities in various iPhone apps and features.

These findings prove that US sanctions against the company did not work in the end. The reason is, Citizen Lab shared their findings with Apple. Apple then made changes to address the vulnerability issue in the iOS 16.3.1 update released last February.

Apple has also been in the midst of a high-profile lawsuit, filed after the no-click attack identified by Citizen Lab in September 2021.

WhatsApp reportedly hacked into hackers. Hackers embed spyware through vulnerabilities in applications. Reported by Sky News, Tuesday (14/5/2019), several users have been attacked but it is unclear how many devices have been detected.
