Ahead of the 2023/2024 Season: Laporta Claims Barcelona is Better than Real Madrid

– Barcelona President, Joan Laporta claims that his team is better than his arch-rival, Real Madrid in facing competition in the 2023/2024 season. Laporta is optimistic that Barcelona can defend the La Liga title next season and also win the Champions League.

The Barcelona squad returned to pre-season training earlier this week. Xavi’s army is getting stronger with the presence of two new players, Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez.

“We have a team that is better than Madrid. Individually we are also better than them (Madrid). As a club member and fan, I am very satisfied with the team we have built,” said Laporta, Wednesday (12/7/2023).

Madrid, who finished as runner-up under Barca last season in La Liga, having signed Jude Bellingham, Joselu, Fran Garcia and former Barca target Arda Guler this summer.

“We already have a very competitive team. We have won the Spanish League and we can continue to show dominance in this competition. We also want to be among the candidates for the Champions League title,” he said.

Laporta said he wanted to focus on building a good team rather than recruiting lots of new players.

“We have signed Gundogan and Martinez and they will put in a great performance as will the other players who are coming up. We are missing a right-back and we are working on that. We also want to strengthen our midfield.”
