AJC 2023 Final: Farizi/Joaquin Fall, Indonesia Only Runner-up

– Indonesia only occupies the second position alias runner-up the 2023 Asia Junior Badminton Championships (AJC) mixed team number, after surrendering, 2-3, at the hands of Japan, Tuesday (11/7/2023).

Indonesia’s defeat occurred after in the final final at the Amongrogo Sports Hall, Yogyakarta, the men’s doubles Muhammad Al Farizi/Nikolaus Joaquin surrendered to the Japanese pair, Kenta Matsukawa/Daigo Tanioka.

Farizi/Joaquin surrendered to Kenta/Daigo after playing three games with scores of 11-21, 21-19, and 13-21.

In this match, the Farizi/Joaquin pair admitted that they had brought out their best form.

Resulting in positive trends from the group phase to the semifinals, Farizi/Joaquin’s slick steps stopped in the final and failed to bring Indonesia to a championship title in front of the Student City public.

“We have put out the best form of play in this match. Both of us have played to the maximum and put on the best game,” said Farizi.

In this match Farizi/Joaquin made many unforced errors in the final game. When they were gaining momentum in the second game, they were able to excel, in the third game, their game even declined so that the pair from the Land of the Rising Sun won and led Japan to become champions.

“When we excelled in the second game, we even lost focus on the deciding game. Now we want to get up and want to win,” added Farizi.

The captain of the Indonesian team, Alwi Farhan, said he was proud of his colleagues. After making careful preparations, the achievements that have been inscribed are considered to be proud.

The Red and White team equalized at 1-1 after Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari defeated Tomoka Miyazaki in two straight games, 21-17, 21-16 in the second women’s singles match.

Alwi Farhan’s men’s singles lead Indonesia to a 2-1 lead. Alwi scored points for the hosts after defeating Yusai Okimoto, 21-13, 14-21, 21-14.

However, Japan equalized at 2-2 after the Indonesian women’s doubles Anisanaya Kamila/Az Zahra Ditya Ramadhani surrendered to the Japanese pair, Mei Sudo/Nao Yamakita, 19-21, 21-14, 21-23. In the fifth match, Indonesian men’s doubles Muhammad Al Farizi/Nikolaus Joaquin surrendered to Kenta Matsukawa/Daigo Tanioka, 11-21, 21-19, 13-21.
