Barcelona and Inter Milan Legend Luis Suarez Dies
– Former Barcelona and Inter Milan player, Luis Suarez died at the age of 88 on Sunday (9/7/2023).
The Spaniard, whose real name is Luis Suarez Miramontes, joined Barcelona in 1955. He is the only Spanish player to win the Ballon d’Or.
He won the award after helping Barcelona win the Spanish League and the Copa del Rey in 1959.
Suarez has defended the Spanish national team 32 times and was part of the La Furia Roja squad that successfully won the 1964 European Cup.
“Luis Suárez Miramontes died on Sunday in Milan at the age of 88,” Barcelona said in a statement.
“Known as ‘Luisito’, he is considered one of the best players in the history of Spanish football and was a key part of Barca in the second half of the 1950s,” the statement continued.
Condolences were also conveyed by Italian club Inter Milan.
“We say goodbye to Luisito. We feel deep sadness. Suarez inspired the current generations. He will be remembered as a unique and great footballer, who was a big part of Inter,” wrote Inter Milan.
Suarez joined Inter in 1961, winning three Serie A titles, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups during his nine years at Milan.
