Chelsea Retreats, Manchester United Leads To Get Inter Milan Goalkeeper Andre Onana

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Chelsea are looking for a number one keeper. This is after Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga both struggled to convince under multiple managers last season.

Last season Mendy suffered a finger injury which kept him out of action for Chelsea a lot. Kepa, who has lost his number one goalkeeper status, then played an important role by making 29 appearances as a starter in the 2022/2023 season in the Premier League.

However, the Blues could only finish in 12th place with nine clean sheets despite Kepa’s name. Both Kepa and Mendy were predicted to leave elsewhere during the summer market.

Despite the presence of Gabriel Slonina and Marcus Bettinelli, Chelsea are looking to bolster their goalkeeping lineup should Mendy or Kepa leave in the coming weeks. Because, he can be sent to another club on loan to continue his development.

Andre Onana has been identified as a top target for Chelsea. The 27-year-old goalkeeper played an important role in Inter Milan’s run to the 2022-2023 Champions League final, keeping five clean sheets in six knockout matches.

Even though Inter Milan lost to Manchester City in the algae final, Onana’s performance received praise. The former Cameroon national team goalkeeper also recorded eight clean sheets from 24 appearances in the Italian Serie A.

However, Evening Standard reports Chelsea have now pulled out of the race to sign Onana. The Blues are now pursuing alternative targets in their search for a new keeper.

This is good news for Manchester United. Because, Man Utd is now in the leading position to recruit Onana.
