Conquered by the Indian pair, Fajar/Rian are only runners-up to the 2023 Korea Open

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Indonesian men’s doubles, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, only became runner-up won the 2023 Korea Open after surrendering to Indian representatives, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty, in the final on Sunday (23/7/2023).

Playing at Jinnam Stadium, Yeosu, South Korea, the world number one doubles was defeated by Rankireddy/Shetty with a score of 21-17, 13-21, 14-21. Fajar/Rian failed to become champions after surrendering to the third seed in 1 hour and 2 minutes.

Tight battle occurred at the start of the first game. Fajar/Rian led in the first two points but could always be matched by the third-placed doubles. However, after the score drew 2-2, Fajar/Rian controlled the game and continued to leave their opponents.

Aggressive play that makes opponents often make mistakes has brought Fajar/Rian to continue to collect points. Fajar/Rian’s five points in a row brought them a 10-3 lead. They also led 11-4 so there was an interval.

Fajar/Rian did reach 19 points first. But the Indian pair managed six straight points to narrow the gap to 16-19. However, the smash that was released by Fajar made them lead 20-16. After losing one point, Fajar/Rian finally finished the first game 21-17 in 20 minutes.

The second game was much tighter. The two pairs equalized on the first four points. Rankireddy/Shetty also reached six points earlier but Fajar/Rian were leveled again.

Fast and furious play then graced this match. The Indian doubles then led 11-8 so there was an interval.

Several mistakes were made to keep Fajar/Rian behind. The pressure exerted by the Indian pair made the world’s first ranked men’s doubles fail to develop their game. They then surrendered 13-21 in 20 minutes.

Entering the third game, Rankireddy/Shetty led from the start. Thanks to the pressure they put on and an unforced error made by Fajar/Rian, the Indian doubles continued to lead and were never overtaken until they were 11-8 ahead at the interval.

Rankireddy/Shetty continued to dominate the game and forced Fajar/Rian to continue making mistakes. The Indian doubles then finished the third game 21-14.

With this result, the score of the meeting of the two pairs was 3-2 for India’s double advantage. In the last two previous matches, Fajar/Rian also always lost to the pair who helped India win the Thomas Cup.

China won two titles at the 2023 Korea Open. In the mixed doubles final, Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping won the championship after defeating their compatriots, Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin, 21-16 and 21-13.

Another Chinese representative who won this championship is the women’s doubles Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan. They became the best after defeating the host pair Kim So Yeong / Kong Hee Yong, 21-10, 17-21, and 21-7.

The hosts only won one title at this year’s Korea Open through An Se Young’s women’s singles. The world number two defeated Tai Tzu Ying, 21-9 and 21-15.

Danish badminton player Anders Antonsen managed to become the men’s singles champion after defeating Loh Kean Yew from Singapore in the final, 21-11, 11-21, 19-2.
