Declared Fit, Morbidelli Ready to Debut with Pramac Ducati at the Qatar GP
Losail, Todaysgist.com – Prima Pramac Ducati team racer Franco Morbidelli was declared fit to compete in the inaugural MotoGP 2024 series at the Qatar GP which starts Friday (8/3/2024) tomorrow.
He was declared to have recovered from the injury he suffered while training on the Ducati Panigale V4 motorbike at the Portimao Circuit in Portugal at the end of January 2024.
The latest confirmation of Morbidelli's condition ahead of the race was uploaded by the official MotoGP website on Thursday (7/3/2024). They revealed that the 29-year-old racer had completed a medical examination, so he was allowed to compete on the Qatar Losail Circuit track this weekend.
“After going through a medical test in Qatar, Franco Morbidelli was declared fit (to race) and will appear in the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar,” read the official MotoGP statement on its official website.
In this way, Morbidelli will have his first race with Pramac Ducati after appearing in a Yamaha uniform last season. Racing at the Qatar GP was also a tough test for him, considering the limited preparation period ahead of the new MotoGP season.
Due to an accident while testing a Superbike class motorbike from Ducati in Portimao, Morbidelli had to miss the MotoGP pre-season test session, thus missing the opportunity to test his abilities and tune the Ducati Desmosedici GP24 motorbike in Qatar and Malaysia.
Even though initially there were doubts about appearing in the first MotoGP race in 2024, Morbidelli and Pramac Ducati gave positive signals from the start of this week.
In fact, only armed with an MRI examination carried out in Italy, Pramac Ducati still sent the owner of motorbike number 21 to Qatar.
“I am very happy to receive the results of the medical tests that allow me to race at the start of this season. “I am enthusiastic about trying the new motorbike, being involved again in pre-race activities, and having the opportunity to get to know all my new team members better,” said Morbidelli before leaving for Qatar.
This season Prima Pramac Ducati will be defended by Morbidelli and a racer from Spain, Jorge Martin. In the 2023 edition of the MotoGP event, Martin managed to rank second in the final drivers' standings, only 39 points behind world champion Francesco Bagnaia.
