Defeated by Hong Kong Doubles, Rehan/Lisa Knocked Out from Japan Open 2023

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Indonesian mixed doubles, Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati, were eliminated in the round of 32 of the Japan Open 2023 after surrendering to Hong Kong representatives, Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet, Tuesday (25/7/2023).

Playing at Yoyogi Stadium, Tokyo, Rehan/Lisa gave up 15-21 and 14-21. Rehan/Lisa, ranked 21st in the world, surrendered to the doubles ranked 10 levels below them in 40 minutes.

Rehan admitted that the Hong Kong pair had more variety and had a neat and tight defense. “In the first game we tried to attack first but ended up being overwhelmed. When we changed the pattern with defense counter attack, they also can not stand it. We have tried to catch up but the points are too far,” said the Bekasi-born player as quoted by PBSI.

The 23-year-old badminton player said he and Lisa would focus on the next tournament and didn’t want to think about anything other than improving their appearance.

While Lisa admits that her defense was bad in the early round of the Japan Open, “In the second game we started well but after that they targeted me a lot while I found the defense easy to kill today,” said the player born in Sleman.

Lisa is aware that her and Rehan’s performance has decreased since the SEA Games, but this will be their motivation to keep trying to return to their best performance. “We have corrected everything in training, but the results may not be visible yet,” said Lisa.
