Erick Thohir: Indonesia Can Be Penalized by FIFA If Supporters Disturb

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The general chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir, appealed to all fans to be orderly in watching live matches at the stadium.

Erick reminded that Indonesia is still under FIFA monitoring as a result of various Indonesian football polemics. If there is another fan riot, Erick said that Indonesia could be subject to FIFA sanctions.

“I have warned the fans from the start. We are not being punished by FIFA. We are being monitored by FIFA. If something goes wrong, we will definitely be punished,” said Erick in a press conference, in Jakarta, Thursday (20/7/2023).

Erick explained that the government, PSSI, FIFA, PT Liga Indonesia Baru, and the police were committed to maintaining order in the fans. Therefore, regulations prohibiting guest fans in Indonesia are applied.

“We haven’t had guest supporters for two years. If the first year is good, well, maybe not two years. If there are riots this year, we’ll be punished. Definitely. Now this is what we don’t want, especially since the police have been kind enough to give permission to issue a year,” said Erick.

Supporter riots have recently occurred again, to be precise in the match between Persik Kediri vs Arema FC in the continuation of League 1 at the Brawijaya Stadium, Kediri City, Saturday (15/7/2023).

Dozens of Arema FC supporters who were caught smuggling into the Brawijaya Stadium and sat in the stands, were attacked by Persik Kediri supporters. Luckily, security officers immediately secured the Arema FC supporters and immediately took them out of the stadium.

Erick hopes that in the future fans will be able to refrain from harming Indonesian clubs and football.

“I hope the fans will hold back. Don’t harm the club. Don’t harm Indonesia, which is serious about building football, especially PSSI for the national team. I beg,” Erick hoped.
