First Since 2002, Samator Absent from Proliga

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The legendary volleyball team from Surabaya, Samator, is absent from the 2024 Proliga volleyball competition for the first time. Samator has never previously appeared in this competition since it was held in 2002.

Samator is the only team that has always appeared since Proliga started 22 years ago. Their last appearance was in Proliga 2023. In fact, they collected seven championship titles, and are the record holders for most Proliga champions.

With the absence of Samator, the new Jakarta Garuda Jaya team will be the seventh team to appear in the 2024 Proliga. The Jakarta Garuda Jaya player material consists of players aged 19 years and under.

Deputy Chair of PP PBVSI Achievement Development, Loudry Maspaitella, said that the appearance of Jakarta Garuda Jaya was to prepare the team for the Asian Championship under the age of 20 (U-20), which is scheduled to take place in Surabaya, 23-30 July 2024.

“We no longer have time to carry out national training for the Asian Championship,” said Loudry, who was given the task of preparing the Jakarta Garuda Jaya team, Tuesday (5/3/2024).

According to Loudry, the U-20 team's preparations were carried out by participating in Proliga level competitions. “We took the player material from last year's junior championship in Sentul. Their average age is 19 years and under,” added the former national team player.

“We no longer have time to carry out National Training,” he continued.

Loudry revealed that Jakarta Garuda Jaya would use foreign players from Thailand. Coach from Brazil who is an aid from the FIVB.
