Going to Saudi Arabia without permission, Messi apologizes to PSG
– Lionel Messi expressed his regret and apology to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for his trip to Saudi Arabia through a video upload on social media.
“I’m waiting for the club’s decision,” said Messi, opening the door to reconciliation with the French capital-based club.
As is known, Lionel Messi was suspended from playing for two weeks by his club, PSG because he missed training and instead went to Saudi Arabia.
A number of French media have reported that Lionel Messi will be suspended from playing for two weeks.
PSG retainers were actually promised two days off on May 1-2 if they win against Lorient. However, the 1-3 defeat was precisely what Messi et al got from Lorient, last Sunday 30 April. As a result, the May 1-2 holiday was cancelled.
The defeat prompted coach Christophe Galtier to ask his players to train on May 1.
Lionel Messi has actually asked PSG for permission to go to Saudi Arabia. However, PSG did not allow it.
The 35-year-old striker went to the oil-rich country to become Saudi Arabia’s tourism ambassador.
As a result of the suspension, Messi is expected to miss the games against Troyes on Sunday and AC Ajaccio on May 13. The Press Association reported that Messi was also unable to train with the club, nor did he get paid for two weeks.
Messi’s actions sparked protests from hardline supporters or PSG ultras. They staged demonstrations protesting the behavior of the star who brought Argentina to the World Cup title.
On Wednesday (4/5/2023), the Parisian club’s supporters’ association issued a statement asking fans to gather around the club’s premises to protest the Argentinian star.
PSG ultras also took their anger out on Neymar. Several of those ultras went to the Brazilian striker’s house to ask him to leave the club as well.
Lionel Messi’s Apology
Leo Messi: “I thought we’d have a day off after the game as always. I organized this trip and I couldn’t cancel it. I’ve already canceled it before. I apologize to my colleagues and I’m waiting for what the club wants to do with me.”
