Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Arsenal humiliated Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in the Premier League match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sunday (28/4/2024).
The visiting Arsenal team took a three-goal lead through suicides from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz. Tottenham could only reduce the deficit through goals from Cristian Romero and Son Heung-Min.
Obtaining these three points keeps Arsenal away from Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title this season. The Gunners still top the standings with 80 points, four points ahead of City. However, City can come back if they beat Nottingham Forest tonight.
This defeat did not affect Tottenham's position, which is in fifth place with 60 points.
The Lilywhites are also six points ahead in the race for European competition slots with Manchester United who are ranked sixth.
Playing in front of the majority of opposing fans, Arsenal scored through Hojbjerg's own goal.
The player from Denmark wanted to throw the ball from Bukayo Saka's corner kick, but it went straight into his own goal. Arsenal lead 1-0.
Arsenal doubled their lead four minutes later. Saka successfully completed a counter-attack into a goal to give Arsenal a 2-0 lead.
The visitors again silenced the opposing fans after increasing their lead to 3-0 in the 38th minute through Havertz.
Tottenham scored a goal in the 64th minute. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya made a mistake when trying to pass and the ball fell to the feet of Cristian Romero who was standing near the penalty box. The Argentine player then broke through Raya's goal to make the score 1-3.
Tottenham's efforts paid off in the 84th minute. Rice fouled Davies in the forbidden box. After seeing the replay from VAR, the referee finally gave Tottenham a penalty.
Captain Son Heung-min, who stepped forward as executor, carried out his duties well and made the score 2-3.
Tottenham Hotspur line-up:
Tottenham (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Pedro Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Davies; Hojbjerg (Bissouma 64'), Bentancur (Sarr 46'), Maddison (Richarlison 64'), Kulusevski, Werner (Johnson 31'), Son Heung-min.
