Indonesia is optimistic about winning the Thomas Cup

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Head of the Achievement Development Division of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), who is also Deputy Manager of the Ad Hoc Team for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Ricky Soebagdja, is optimistic that he can win the Thomas Cup.

Previously, Indonesia won the 2020 Thomas Cup which was held in Denmark. However, in 2022, Indonesia was defeated by India in the final.

“We were champions in 2020 and runners-up in 2022. Hopefully this year we can bring the Thomas Cup back to Indonesia. “The condition is that fellow athletes must be in really good condition and appear spartan,” said Ricky, Tuesday (23/4/2024).

According to him, Indonesia is in a group with even strength, namely India, England and Thailand. “We have to have the right strategy for each number,” said Ricky.

For the Uber Cup or Uber Cup, Ricky is targeting Indonesia to reach the semifinals. According to him, this is a positive and realistic target.

“We have good capital. Gregoria is increasingly finding the right game format. “For doubles, we still need to include Apri/Fadia as the first doubles to accompany Lanny/Rebekah and Mei/Rachel,” said Ricky.

The double achievements of Lanny/Rebekah and Mei/Rachel were also encouraging. “Lanny/Rebekah won the Swiss Open and Mei/Rachel won the Orleans Masters. This is also positive energy. The focus is to win the group phase first. “After that, we'll look at the next strategy,” said the men's doubles gold medalist at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

In the group phase, the Uber Indonesia team was in group C with Japan, Hong Kong and Uganda.
